Senior Software Engineer, Product Platform

Role overview

The Product Platform team looks after the base layer of Lithic's API, the foundation that every other Lithic product is built upon. Its stated goal is to give fintech its best API: dependable, consistent and pleasant to integrate against. In practice that covers the API gateway, the events platform, key issuance and authorization for API access, audit trails, and the conventions plus versioning strategy that shape how Lithic's API evolves.

As a senior engineer here you will ship code into that platform, take projects from initial planning through to launch, and carry your share of the on-call rotation. The company is remote and async-first, with staff spread across 26 US states and seven countries, though applicants must live in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland or the Czech Republic. Lithic does not sponsor visas. Staff based in New York work from the SoHo office three days a week.

What you will do

• Build secure, dependable and scalable code for the product platform while keeping technical debt low.
• Raise the reliability of the systems the team owns and take part in its on-call rotation.
• Run projects end to end, from planning through launch, in areas such as key management for API access, reliability work, audit trails or search.
• Keep stakeholders across the company informed and aligned while those projects are in flight.
• Drive improvements to the team's systems and working processes.

What the employer is looking for

• At least four years building backend systems in production, ideally including public APIs operating at scale.
• Rust experience, or a genuine willingness to learn it, plus the ability to read Lithic's existing Python and Java code.
• Interest in, and hands-on use of, AI tooling to work more productively.
• Comfort working through ambiguity, reconciling different viewpoints and landing on practical answers.
• Solid grounding in API design and product thinking: how to version an API, keep older clients working, build from schemas first, and judge trade-offs from the customer's side.
• Confidence designing systems from a blank page and owning product development from start to finish.
• Strong written communication and prior experience on a remote, async-first team spanning multiple time zones.
