MuleSoft Architect & Developer

Role overview
The Data Services & Analytics practice at Attain Partners is adding a MuleSoft Architect & Developer who can carry an integration from design through deployment on the Anypoint Platform. Client work centres on higher education institutions and Salesforce-heavy environments, so the role pairs MuleSoft architecture with substantial Salesforce integration and configuration depth.
This is a hands-on, self-directed position. You will design the integration approach, build the Mule applications, debug difficult technical issues and move around inside Salesforce Setup yourself rather than handing that off. Attain is firm that an active MuleSoft certification is non-negotiable, and prior work with universities is a strong plus.
What you will do
- Architect, design, build and deploy enterprise integrations on the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform for Attain's clients.
- Develop REST and SOAP APIs along with batch and real-time integration flows.
- Integrate Salesforce using the MuleSoft Salesforce Connector and the Salesforce REST, SOAP and Bulk APIs.
- Work directly in Salesforce configuration, covering Setup, object and field models, relationships, connected apps, permission sets and API settings, to support delivery end to end.
- Apply API-led connectivity, sound authentication (including OAuth 2.0) and robust error-handling frameworks across integrations.
- Write the technical specs, integration mapping documents, API docs and solution architecture diagrams for each engagement.
- Independently test, troubleshoot and resolve complex integration problems through to production.
- Lead technical discovery sessions and architecture design discussions with clients, and collaborate with Salesforce admins, developers and business stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients and contribute to sales and business development efforts.
What the employer is looking for
- At least one current MuleSoft certification is mandatory (for example Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer, or the Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Integration Architect credential).
- 7+ years in enterprise integration, software engineering or solution architecture.
- 4+ years building and delivering MuleSoft integrations hands-on.
- 3+ years integrating Salesforce, including direct experience with Salesforce administration and configuration.
- Deep practical skill across the Anypoint toolset: Studio, DataWeave, API Manager, CloudHub and the connector library.
- Proven delivery of REST APIs, SOAP APIs, batch jobs and real-time integrations.
- Solid grasp of API-led connectivity and integration architecture, plus authentication including OAuth 2.0 and error-handling patterns.
- Ability to own the full cycle of a MuleSoft integration, from architecture to build, test, troubleshooting and deployment, without close supervision.
- Confident communicator with clients and a strong problem-solver; willing to travel occasionally as client needs dictate.
Good to have
- Higher education background, particularly with universities, Advancement organisations and Student Information Systems.
- Integration experience with Salesforce Education Cloud, Nonprofit Cloud or Advancement solutions.
- Knowledge of campus systems, for example Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Workday, Slate or Anthology.
- Reusable integration frameworks built on MuleSoft's API-led architecture, plus grounding in migrating data, mapping sources to targets, data quality and enterprise-level data architecture.
- Delivery automation experience (CI/CD, Git, automated tests, scripted deployments) and familiarity with event-driven designs, message queues and async processing.
- Previous consulting or professional services work supporting several enterprise clients at once.
Benefits and compensation
- Medical, dental and vision plans, HSA/FSA options, life and disability cover, fertility and family-planning support, and employee assistance and discount schemes, available from day one.
- 11 paid federal holidays plus flexible unlimited time off.
- 401(k) matching with immediate vesting.
- Defined career tracks offering advancement, mobility and flexibility.
- Base salary of $150,000 to $180,000 depending on experience, education and skills, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

DigitalAPI's read on this role
Why this MuleSoft Architect & Developer role reflects the state of integration-led APIM
DigitalAPI's leadership team has run API programmes for Fortune 100 companies and now builds the platform behind them. Here is their take on what this opening really asks for.
What this role says about the market
Higher education and public-sector clients tend to run years of accumulated systems: student information systems, advancement CRMs, campus ERPs and now Salesforce clouds on top. Roles like this one exist because connecting those estates is still a bespoke exercise, and MuleSoft's API-led model remains the common language for doing it. DigitalAPI's leadership team sees this as the classic governance challenge: every integration becomes an API, and without a catalogue and policy layer those APIs become the next generation of sprawl. The mention of API Manager, documentation deliverables and reusable frameworks in this posting suggests Attain understands that the integration is only half the job; making it discoverable and governed is the other half.
What to emphasise in your application
- Your active MuleSoft certification and the Anypoint projects behind it, with specifics on Anypoint Studio, DataWeave transformations, API Manager policies and CloudHub deployments.
- Salesforce integration depth beyond the connector: working in Setup, connected apps, permissions and Bulk API loads, since this role expects you to configure Salesforce directly.
- API-led designs you have shipped, showing how you structured experience, process and system layers and reused them across clients.
- Error-handling and OAuth 2.0 authentication patterns you standardised, which clients in education and government care about for audit and security.
- Any university, advancement or SIS work, and consulting experience juggling multiple enterprise clients and leading discovery sessions.
For hiring managers
DigitalAPI's leadership team would advise probing beyond MuleSoft fluency. Ask candidates how they document and publish the APIs they build, how they apply policies through API Manager rather than in code, and how they would prevent a growing set of client integrations from turning into ungoverned sprawl. The best architects can describe lifecycle and observability practices as readily as DataWeave syntax.
Integration programmes like this succeed when every API that comes out of them is catalogued, governed and ready for the next consumer, whether that is a campus system, a developer or an AI agent. That gateway-agnostic, portal-first view is the lens DigitalAPI brings to every APIM role.
About DigitalAPI
DigitalAPI is the gateway-agnostic command centre for APIs and AI agents. It connects to the gateways an enterprise already runs, Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway and Azure API Management, and turns everything behind them into one governed, self-serve catalogue for developers, partners and AI agents. API Gateway, API Portal, API Catalog, API Marketplace, MCP Gateway and MCP Portal ship as one platform.
The company grew out of an API consultancy founded in Bangalore in 2015 that became an Apigee-Google partner in 2017, then built its own cloud-agnostic, AI-powered platform in 2020 after seeing how fragmented gateways and duplicate APIs blocked its clients. More than 240 API teams now use it, with customers such as Zurich, Canara Bank, HSBC, Fiserv and Mahindra Finance. DigitalAPI has offices in the USA, UK and India, 130+ people, and recognition from Gartner and Deloitte.
