Role overview

Payoneer's aim for this position is simple to state: anything a customer can do in the Payoneer app should also be reachable programmatically, either through self-serve APIs or through an MCP interface that AI agents can call. The company already publishes a large API catalogue, yet only a small share of customers can actually use it, and getting a new integration live still takes weeks. That limits adoption and holds back the retention gains Payoneer sees from integrated customers.

This is a newly created area with no previous owner, so the strategy, vision and roadmap start with you. You will set the plan for closing the access gap, treat API availability as a growth and retention driver, and take the MCP / AI-native work from prototype to a production service. The role reports into Platform Product leadership and works day to day with Product, R&D, Risk, Security, Legal and go-to-market teams.

What you will do

  • Move Payoneer's MCP effort out of proof-of-concept and into production, surfacing capabilities such as account balance, transaction history, payouts and FX as tools callable by agents like ChatGPT and Claude.
  • Work with the Account Security and Core Foundations teams on authentication, governance and a cautious read-only-first rollout of the MCP layer.
  • Define and drive the strategy that lets far more customers reach Payoneer's existing APIs, with three execution threads: onboarding customers can complete on their own, a better developer experience, and governance of the API estate.
  • Shorten integration onboarding from weeks to something customers can complete on their own, and tie that to adoption and retention outcomes.
  • Collect input from Customer Success, Sales and regional go-to-market teams across EMEA, LATAM and APAC and shape it into a prioritised, evidence-based roadmap.
  • Build and defend the business case, including quantifying how API-integrated customers retain compared with others.
  • Coordinate Risk on eligibility rules, Security on the MCP/API risk model, Legal on data-sharing and LLM integration questions, plus Pricing and Engineering, so launches ship and deliver results rather than just features.

What the employer is looking for

  • At least six years in product management, with meaningful time spent owning API, platform, developer-facing or integration products.
  • Enough technical depth to talk through REST APIs, webhooks and events, OAuth-based authentication, SDKs and how integrations are architected, in direct conversation with engineers.
  • A record of walking into an ambiguous, unowned space and producing clarity: a strategy, a roadmap and shipped product, largely under your own steam.
  • Experience building self-serve or developer-facing experiences and moving measurable adoption and time-to-value numbers.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership, with the ability to align Risk, Security, Legal, go-to-market and Engineering around common goals and keep momentum.
  • Analytical, data-led decision making, including comfort defining new metrics where none currently exist.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Based in India, able to work in a hybrid arrangement and collaborate across global time zones.

Good to have

  • Hands-on time with AI-native interfaces, whether MCP, tooling for agents or LLM-based integrations, and an informed view on the direction agent-driven finance is taking.
  • Background in fintech, payments or another regulated sector, with practical experience working inside compliance, risk and security constraints.
  • Familiarity with API aggregators and ERP or accounting ecosystems, for example Codat, Rutter, Xero, QuickBooks or NetSuite.
  • Previous work turning an internal API estate into a product: governance, standardisation and developer adoption at scale.
  • A builder mindset, having taken an initial customer or use case and grown it into something repeatable at scale.

Quick answers

Is the Payoneer Senior Product Manager – MCP/API Platform role remote?

No. The position is based in Gurugram, India and follows a hybrid working model. Payoneer asks that candidates be located in India and able to collaborate across global time zones.

What experience does Payoneer expect for this role?

The posting calls for 6+ years in product management with significant ownership of API, platform, developer-facing or integration products, plus technical fluency in REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth and SDKs. Hands-on MCP or LLM integration exposure and fintech or payments experience are listed as differentiators rather than requirements.

What will this product manager actually own?

Two linked outcomes: making Payoneer's existing API catalogue reachable through self-serve onboarding, developer experience and governance, and taking the company's MCP layer out of proof-of-concept and into production so AI agents can call capabilities such as balances, transactions, payouts and FX. Salary is not disclosed in the posting.

DigitalAPI's read on this role

Why a fintech is hiring a PM to own MCP and API access at the same time

DigitalAPI's leadership team has run API programmes for Fortune 100 companies and now builds the platform behind them. Here is their take on what this opening really asks for.

What this role says about the market

This posting captures a pattern DigitalAPI's leadership team sees across financial services: the hard problem is no longer building APIs but getting them consumed. Payoneer already has hundreds of endpoints, yet most customers cannot reach them and onboarding takes weeks. That is a catalogue, portal and governance problem, not an engineering one. Layered on top is the newer demand that the same APIs be exposed as MCP tools for agents such as ChatGPT and Claude, with Security and Legal shaping a read-first rollout. In our view this is what API product management looks like in 2026: self-serve access for humans and agents, governed in-pipeline, measured by adoption and retention rather than endpoint count.

What to emphasise in your application

  • A concrete story of productising an existing API estate: how you standardised contracts, set governance rules and lifted developer adoption at scale.
  • Measurable self-serve wins, especially onboarding time-to-value reductions and the adoption or retention metrics you moved.
  • Hands-on familiarity with MCP, agent tools or LLM-backed integrations, and a clear opinion on how read-only agent access should be scoped and secured in finance.
  • Evidence of leading Risk, Security and Legal through API or data-sharing decisions in a regulated environment, since those functions gate every launch here.
  • Technical credibility with engineers on REST, webhooks, OAuth and SDK design, backed by examples of trade-offs you influenced.

For hiring managers

DigitalAPI's leadership team would screen for candidates who treat the developer portal and catalogue as the product, not the APIs themselves. Ask how they would measure the gap between APIs that exist and APIs that are actually consumed, and how they would automate governance so Security and Legal reviews do not become a bottleneck for every new MCP tool. Candidates who have shipped agent-callable interfaces should be able to explain their authorisation and scoping model in detail.

Roles like this confirm that APIs now have two customers, developers and agents, and that the teams winning are the ones that make both self-serve from a governed catalogue. That is the gateway-agnostic, portal-first, agent-ready direction DigitalAPI builds for.

About DigitalAPI

DigitalAPI is the gateway-agnostic command centre for APIs and AI agents. It connects to the gateways an enterprise already runs, Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway and Azure API Management, and turns everything behind them into one governed, self-serve catalogue for developers, partners and AI agents. API Gateway, API Portal, API Catalog, API Marketplace, MCP Gateway and MCP Portal ship as one platform.

The company grew out of an API consultancy founded in Bangalore in 2015 that became an Apigee-Google partner in 2017, then built its own cloud-agnostic, AI-powered platform in 2020 after seeing how fragmented gateways and duplicate APIs blocked its clients. More than 240 API teams now use it, with customers such as Zurich, Canara Bank, HSBC, Fiserv and Mahindra Finance. DigitalAPI has offices in the USA, UK and India, 130+ people, and recognition from Gartner and Deloitte.
